TITLE POEM BEHOLDER

Eye of the beholder sees
What only it can see
Perceives beauty in many things
And persons that others do not see
Elegance in decadence
Art in ruins and ruined people.
Eye of the beholder
Puts portraits and landscapes to canvas
fractured, figurative, abstract,
On film, in murals, on ancient cavern walls,
on tattooed skin
And with words, to song, poetry, and prose.

Eye of the beholder
can focus beyond the dark
where miracles occur
where light penetrates
the dimmest corners of the world,
brain, mind, and imagination,
where, as far as we know,
the rest of the universe
in some still undiscovered place
like a butterfly in its chrysalis,
is waiting to be born
and in a flight of red be beautiful.
